collaborative partners

partnersAs the only high-quality early childhood education provider in the surrounding area, LWPSC Preschool continues to fulfill a unique need in the Lakewood Community. But this is not a singular effort. A variety of collaborative partners come together to help LWPSC fulfill its mission of helping children and families enter Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools ready to learn.

LWPSC continues to have a strong volunteer and collaboration base that includes (i) a very knowledgeable and committed working Board of Directors and (ii) a strong base of community volunteers (including church groups, Scout troops, and individuals) that commit time and resources to mentor, work on the building and grounds, and provide other valuable services to LPC, and (iii) community partners. Partnership with Child Care Resources in Early Head Start Child Care Center Partnership to provide services for children 0-3 years of age; Friendship Trays provides healthy breakfast and lunches for all students; LWPSC receives pantry credits from Second Harvest where volunteers contribute hours for the benefit of Lakewood. LWPSC also relies on a variety of partners in the health and human services arena for screenings and referrals, including, Prevent Blindness of North Carolina, Charlotte Speech & Hearing, Carlton Watkins Center for Developmental Delay Services, Thompson Child and Family Focus (Polliwog Project), and Charlotte Mecklenburg Exceptional Children’s Services for Speech and Language Services.

LWPSC has further evidenced its commitment to the family nature of the preschool by partnering with an evaluation researcher working at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte Institute for Social Capital to track academic progress for Lakewood Preschool alumni. This partnership allows LWPSC to track our students through third grade and evaluate the effectiveness of our programming and service delivery and make necessary adjustments to enhance student learning.

Funding for LWPSC is through private donations, fundraising, grants and interested donors:
